I’m the founder of Behind the Business, and this company is a reflection of many different chapters of my life — my work, my travels, the people I’ve met, and the experiences that have shaped the way I see work, opportunity, and what it means to build a business.
I was born and raised in the Philippines, and that will always be an important part of my story. Growing up there gave me a personal appreciation for the talent, resilience, and strong work ethic of Filipino people — qualities I’ve seen time and time again throughout my own life and career.
I’ve spent years in client- and customer-facing roles across different industries, learning how to communicate with different people, solve problems, build relationships, and understand what businesses and their customers truly need.
But my career journey didn’t happen in a straight line.
I sold my belongings and set off on what was supposed to be a three-month backpacking adventure. Somehow, that turned into seven years of travel, work, volunteering, learning, and growth. During those years, I volunteered with businesses and charities in exchange for food and accommodation, took on personal fundraising projects, and worked in a variety of customer support roles, including online work.
That online work was particularly meaningful to me because it gave me something I valued deeply: freedom.
It helped make some of my travels possible and showed me that work didn’t always have to be tied to one place. It opened my eyes to what remote work could make possible — not just for the person doing the work, but for businesses looking for talented people beyond their own backyard.
Looking back, I can see how each chapter of my life brought me a little closer to where I am today. The different jobs, the people I’ve met, the places I’ve lived and worked, and everything I’ve learned along the way have all shaped the way I approach business and the kind of company I wanted to create.
That journey eventually led me here — to Behind the Business.
Over time, I realized that I wanted to create something that could give people some of the same opportunities that had meant so much to me.
I wanted to help business owners get the support they need so they can spend more time on the things that truly matter to them.
And I wanted to create opportunities for talented people in the Philippines to have meaningful online work — work that can support their goals, give them flexibility, and, hopefully, allow them to experience some of the freedom and possibilities that remote work gave me.
Because I know firsthand that work can be more than a paycheck.
It can give you independence.
It can give you choices.
It can give you the ability to support yourself while seeing the world, spending more time with the people you love, or simply creating a life that feels more like your own.
That is the kind of impact I hope Behind the Business can have.
The Philippines is an important part of my story, and it naturally became an important part of Behind the Business' story too.
I believe there is an incredible amount of talent, dedication, warmth, and potential among Filipino professionals.
But for me, this has never been about simply finding people to complete tasks.
I want our virtual assistants to feel valued, respected, and proud of the work they do. I want them to have opportunities to grow professionally while also having the flexibility to build a life beyond their work.
I want them to be able to work online, support themselves and their families, pursue their own goals, and maybe even pack a bag and see a little more of the world along the way.
Because I've been fortunate enough to experience that freedom myself, and I know how life-changing it can be.
I believe you shouldn't have to do everything yourself to grow a business.
I believe asking for help can create space for better things — more time with your family, more time with your clients, more energy for your ideas, or simply a little more breathing room.
And I believe the people supporting your business should benefit from that relationship too.
For me, success isn't just about how much a business can grow.
It's about how many lives we can positively impact along the way.
If Behind the Business can help a business owner reclaim their time while giving a talented professional the opportunity to build a career, support their loved ones, travel, or create a life they genuinely enjoy — that's meaningful to me.
Whether you're a business owner looking for support or a talented professional looking for an opportunity, thank you for being here.
There's a lot more to work than work — and I hope Behind the Business can help make room for more of the life you want, too.
